Giving Squids a Helping Hand

A blog designed to help promote poorly ranked lenses in the Squidoosphere that do not deserve to be ranked low

GSHH blog has moved to Blogger because its previous host has been down for over a week with no explanation.

If the host becomes active again, the posts will stay there but also will be imported over to Blogger if possible.

This is its final move.

So, did it work?

The answer is Yes!

Okay, if you don’t know what I’m talking about, please read my last post :)

So, yes, by removing the duplicate content (one module) and adding something in my own words, the traffic to the lens, Access your Twitter account using Twhirl increased dramatically.

It’s not one of my top lenses but it has definitely come off the bottom!

Now, if only I could get an eureka moment for some of my other poor lenses, I’ll be happy.

E.g. My Game Consoles are better for playing Video Games! is still not indexed in Google as far as I can tell. So, traffic is terrible :(

I’ve looked over it several times and have yet to see what could be the problem.

Back to the drawing board again :)

Oh…dear…

I suppose I’ve been active on Squidoo long enough to be able to learn to recognise the reasons why some lenses are not doing so well.

Just as I was dropping off to sleep last night, it suddenly came to be why, maybe, one of my lenses is dropping in traffic consistently.

Here’s the lens in question:

Access your Twitter account using Twhirl

Unfortunately by the time you read this post I’d have already worked on it removing the problem module and replacing it with something in my own words.

Stupid, really.

Should have picked it up a lot sooner…

P.S A little bit of an update to this post. Thanks to AJ :) I forgot to mention what was wrong with this lens.  So, here’s what I thought was wrong:

One module was a cut and paste job. I know; duplicate content is a no-no. I didn’t plagarize it; I credited the source. However, I didn’t think it was a good thing to keep on the lens.

I also didn’t think that how I’d written the lens came across that I CARED much for the product. If you compare it with my MyBLogLog and FeedCat lenses, it kind of sucked, to be quite honest.

So, there you go :)

Busy with Squidoo!

I’ve been so busy improving (I say improving rather than updating) all my lenses that I’ve not posted anything in this blog for over a week!

I reckon a lot of other lensmasters are busy also with Squidoo ‘things’ as I’ve not had any comments or visitors to this blog since my last post. I think it’s great that Squidoo has become such a happening place to be and I’m proud to be in the company of some lovely people (squids.)

It’s a big thing for me that so many people care and are supportive to me and to other lensmasters like they are. I don’t think I could ever explain just just how much I love Squidoo.

I think I’m coming to the end of my improvements and will then start on updating them all. The next step after that would be to make sure that all of my lenses are in groups and are listed in as many places as I can.

I still have one or two problem lenses that are still not indexed in Google and this is definitely affecting traffic. I’m running out of ideas as to how I can get these particular lenses indexed. I will have to check if they’re in Yahoo or not, too.

Anyway, I’m off to bed now; I’m totally Squidooed out! :)

More about Squidoo Encyclopedia

I thought it would be a good idea just to write a bit more about Squidoo Encyclopedia.

Squidoo Encyclopedia is a community that allows registered users to submit any Squidoo resource that they wish to the site. This includes any articles, news, resource, blogs, squidoo lenses etc. It doesn’t just mean a Squidoo lens. It means anything that you happen to come across on the WWW about Squidoo.

You do need to be a member of the site to submit a resource, vote and comment. But, it’s free to join.

To be honest, I don’t think it will take off as well as some Squidoo communities simply because I’m running it, lol! ;)

But, it’s okay; I’m happy to continue submitting to it.

In other news, I’ve removed one of my blogs (Little Earners) as I didn’t think I needed it any more. My new blog (Giant Squid Invasion) will now document all my news about promotion efforts and updates to my lenses.

Now, I really need to go and do some exercises. I’ve developed a real problem with water retention and my weight has increased (not just water). I’ve been trying to drink more which is very difficult for me but it doesn’t seem to be doing much good. I do feel pretty rotten physically though; in pain, fat and tired.

I’ve found a really good fitness routine called Get Back into Your Jeans and I think it’s the most effective routine I’ve come across for weight loss and fitness. So, I’ve decided I’m going to do this 3 times a week starting today (Monday). I will post more about my weight loss on my lens, Goals for 2009 and Onwards.
