Checking my backlinks
I’ve been checking my backlinks to some of my lenses and they’re pretty good though I know I need a lot more from other domains. However, I’m wondering why a number of backlinks have not yet been picked up by Google. These backlinks are on forums, websites and webrings. Could it be that they are no-follow? Or does that not matter for backlinks?
My blog commenting has slowed down a bit at the moment. I’m trying to figure out the best search terms to use to find blogs for some of my lens subjects. I might just give publishing a lens targeted towards Squidoo lensmasters a rest and concentrate on subjects that are useful for the entire internet. Although, luckily, the subjects of some of my squidoo targeted lenses can be useful for all web-users and not just for lensmasters.
Although my article for Mooncup is not showing up as a backlink yet I’m receiving traffic from it. This makes my Mooncup lens my second highest ranked lens below Pernicious Anaemia. Using a saying for my What does not destroy me lens has been a good idea as this lens is my 3rd ranking lens.
I might just use this idea again
Now, I need to get down and finish this book editing as I’ve got so many other jobs I should be doing. I also need to interact more on some of the social networking sites I’ve joined as the traffic from those sites are poor.

Am really glad to hear you are getting traffic from the Mooncup article – I cant believe you are the only person who has written a “natural” lens that has applied to me to have it featured on Imperfectly natural.com! I need to do some more promotion. Getting a backlink from a site that gets approx 400,000 hits a month has to be good and you got extra lucky last week because we published your article just when Janey had been on TV – the site went into meltdown!
Writing Squidoo “help” lenses is great but I find that once the initial enthusiasm has worn off, they can sink to the bottom of our rankings. Clickouts are poor and it does not matter how much regular traffic you get, it does not appeal to the algorithm (is that how you spell it?). I actually think that if someone has taken the time to write a lens that will benefit other people on Squidoo, then it should be get some credit.

Squidoo help lenses fall into two categories: those that people read once and forget – and those that people come back to. My SEO and CSS lenses are in the last category, and therefor in the top 2000. My squidoo modules lens: http://www.squidoo.com/squido-modules is somewhere in between: it requires occasional plugging on my part to keep ranking. (though I also plug the SEO and CSS lenses, but that comes up naturally in response to questions)
Lenses like ‘how to become popular on squidoo get rave reviews, but few people actually come back to it after having seen it. The same with my lens on squidcasting: http://www.squidoo.com/squidcast-101
That’s just how it is. Less useful, apparently.

Catching the backlinks is good in order to increase the traffic.

[...] Inkserotica and AJ got into a discussion about how little lensrank squidoo help lenses usually have …. AJ felt that just didn’t do justice to the permanent contribution to the squidoo community those lenses make. [...]
